When we think of New Orleans we think of a party. They have a tradition in New Orleans that you may want to emulate; it’s called a Jazz Funeral and a second line parade. To celebrate their loved ones departure it’s popular to have what’s called a Jazz Funeral and when community members join in it’s called a second line parade or if you are the person joining in you are a “second liner”.
It’s customary to carry a portrait of the deceased in a second line. What a great way to celebrate life!

Wouldn’t it be great to take his or her baseball cap or favorite hat around to all the places where family and mutual friends gather? A sign could also be placed on the chair next to the hat.

When people walk by they will share special memories. What places would you take the hat? For more creative funeral ideas click here.

The Dash Between
I knelt there at the headstone
of one I love and cried.
Name with dates of birth and death
were perfectly inscribed.
I pondered these two dates
and how little they both mean
when compared to the tiny dash
that lies there in between. Continue reading
