Eulogy for Father From Son of Stephen Furst

Eulogy for father from son of Stephen Furst

Stephen Furst as “Flounder” in Animal House

If you’ve ever seen Animal House, you will surely remember Stephen Furst who played “Flounder”.   Stephen passed away on June 17, 2017 from complications from diabetes at only 63 years old.

I was touched by what his sons Nathan and Griffith posted on Facebook about their father.

“Steve has a long list of earthly accomplishments, he was known to the world as [a] brilliant and prolific actor and filmmaker, but to his family and many dear friends, he was also a beloved husband, father and kind friend whose memory will always be a blessing. To truly honor him, do not cry for the loss of Stephen Furst. But rather, enjoy memories of all the times he made you snicker, laugh, or even snort to your own embarrassment. He intensely believed that [laughter] is the best therapy, and he would want us to practice that now. If you knew him personally, remember his gift for lighting up a room. And no matter who you are, when you think of Steve, instead of being sad, celebrate his life by watching one of his movies or use one of his bits to make someone else laugh — really, really hard.”

If you are needing to write a eulogy or a tribute to your father whether it be in the form of a post on social media, an obituary or a eulogy you may want to learn from what Stephen Furst’s sons posted. I like that whether you had watched him on screen or on TV (St. Elsewhere, Babylon 5) you get a real feeling for the type of person he was. You can tell making people laugh (really hard) was almost his reason for being. It sounds like he was a great father, husband and friend too!

It’s also a great idea to suggest friends, family and fans take away a little something from the post that they can do in their own lives to pay tribute to your father. In this case they suggest,  “And no matter who you are, when you think of Steve, instead of being sad, celebrate his life by watching one of his movies or use one of his bits to make someone else laugh — really, really hard.”

Might these seed cards with a photo be a nice tribute to your father? When you plant the dove wildflowers will grow in your father’s memory.
